THE Zanu PF External Relations Department message of support to the Communist Party Of China (Cpc) on Xinjiang by Comrade Simbarashe S Mumbengegwi, Zanu PF Politburo member and Secretary For External Relations: February 2021

The Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF), which is the ruling Party in Zimbabwe and the Communist Party of China (CPC), have always supported each other since time immemorial.

The People’s Republic of China and the Communist Party of China played a pivotal role in the liberation struggle of Zimbabwe.

This pivotal role has continued in the economic reconstruction and development of Zimbabwe since Independence.

ZANU PF totally rejects the false and unjustified criticism against China and the Communist Party of China by its detractors.

ZANU PF takes note of the following facts and achievements by the People’s Republic of China: The People’s Republic of China has done a lot of positive work in China, Africa and all over the world.

China continues to improve its people’s material and cultural lives, and guarantees and develops their human rights in every field.

This has laid a solid foundation for ensuring that all its people, including the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, have the opportunity to enjoy moderate prosperity in all respects and achieve long-term social stability together with their fellow countrymen and countrywomen in other parts of China.

The People’s Republic of China has always prioritised employment and job security which carries great significance for ensuring people’s right to work, improving their living standards, and promoting social harmony and stability.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, Xinjiang has vigorously implemented employment projects, enhanced vocational training, and expanded employment channels and capacity.

The employment situation in Xinjiang has continued to improve, people’s incomes and quality of life are rising, and their sense of gain, happiness and security has significantly increased. The quality of the workforce has improved significantly.

Thanks to the Chinese government’s education projects, enrolment in preschool education, nine-year compulsory education, senior high school education, higher education and vocational education in Xinjiang have all reached the highest level in history.

In 2019, there were 453 800 full-time students studying at universities and colleges (an increase of 146,200 over 2014), and 1,84 million students studying at secondary schools (an increase of 147,600 over 2014).

The above statistics show that in recent years, Xinjiang has achieved remarkable results in providing employment services and job security to the residents, and the overall situation is good.

Xinjiang has seized the development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative to upgrade and diversify the industrial structure to increase employment, promoting capital, technology and knowledge-intensive advanced manufacturing industries and emerging industries, boosting labour-intensive industries such as textiles and garments, shoes and accessories, and consumer electronics, and encouraging modern service industries such as commerce, cultural and creative businesses, all-area-advancing tourism, health care, and elderly care, all with a view to expanding the capacity and scale of employment.

The Chinese government has maintained admirable openness and transparency on issues related to Xinjiang.

ZANU PF was at one time part of those delegations that visited Xinjiang and witnessed first-hand the projects being done by the Chinese government.

In spite of the above achievements, some politicians keep making up falsehoods and astonishing claims about the situation in Xinjiang.

In his act of shame, former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo went on to falsely accuse China of committing so-called “genocide and crimes against humanity” in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Officials in Xinjiang have vehemently protested against the false accusations.

This gross interference in China’s internal affairs shows that the United States officials have no respect for international law and norms governing international relations.

Information which is readily available shows that the population of ethnic minorities, including the Uygur minority had grown consistently from 2010 to 2018.

The Uygur population grew by more than two million to 12,7 million in the region, at a growth rate of more than 25 percent.

The overall population in Xinjiang grew from 21,81 million to 24,86 million, at a growth rate of close to 14 percent.

Uygur population is growing faster than that of the general population in Xinjiang, also faster than that of the population of other ethnic minorities and is significantly faster than that of the Han Chinese population.  Therefore, the above figures show that Pompeo’s determination was grossly wrong.

ZANU PF supports the People’s Republic of China in the actions they have taken in response to this totally uninformed and unwarranted interference in China’s domestic affairs in total disregard of the provisions of the international law.

ZANU PF is of the view that the chaotic response to the Covid-19 pandemic by the United States Administration and the chaos that followed their presidential elections totally disqualifies its officials from attempts to occupy moral high ground on issues relating to Democracy and Human Rights.

ZANU PF wishes the Communist Party of China the best in all its efforts to meet the people’s needs and improve their well-being.
