Top South African house group Uhuru proved critics wrong when they performed a number of hits including the chart topper “Y-Tjukutja”. Other highlights at the gig held at Belgravia Sports Club included a collaboration with Zimbabwe’s own Willbroad “Willom Tight” Muponda who also performed a song produced by the group.
From the outset, the gig which was held on Independence Eve had all the markings of a thriller with the stage, lighting and sound all tuned to perfection.

DJ Naida had the crowd on its feet during her set which was spiced by two sexy dancers including Melody (ex-Roki) group member.

Although DJ Naida was not behind the decks, she worked the stage like no man’s business. Then came hip-hop outfit MMT who despite a few glitches with the microphone they generated a lot of energy on stage. The performed all their hits including “Chakaipa” that features dancheall chanter Dhadza D.

The show then plunged when the self-styled rapper Simba Tagz took to the stage. That boy left a lot to be desired. He was just full of himself despite his weak delivery.

The same thing continued when PeeKay joined him on stage. Though PeeKay was dressed to kill, his set was just dull, there was something amiss.

Thumbs up to BaShupi for his high energy performance. However, he shouldn’t rely too much on cover versions but instead sing his own compositions.

Uhuru then sealed off the gig with their house grooves which generated a lot of heat among the fans.
