NINJA PRESIDENT, Wallace “Winky D” Chirumiko, clinched a deal with one of leading mobile phone brands, GTel Zimbabwe, when they launched a new smartphone at the Harare International Conference Centre last week.
GTel launched a G717 Explorer smartphone and the dancehall star composed a theme song for the new product. He performed the song for the first time during the launch.

Winky D’s manager, Jonathan Banda, expressed gratitude over the new deal.
“Winky D has evolved from a dancehall artiste into a brand that is considered by many corporate companies,” he said.
Good times are rolling for Winky D as he continues to get marketing contracts from various companies.

Winky D signed a contract with the health service group, Population Services International (PSI), during their national male circumcision campaign.

The top chanter has also been working with Lion Lager doing Campus Nights that saw him performing at universities around the country.
Winky D’s association with the corporate world is just one of many product endorsements by local celebrities. Several musicians have also benefited from similar corporate deals.

Earlier this year, sungura maestro Alick Macheso was reported to have bagged US$20 000 in a Baker’s Inn endorsement deal. Macheso is also the humanitarian ambassador for Red Cross Zimbabwe and the Range Rover SUV although we are yet to see him driving around in the top of the range car.

Sulumani Chimbetu, on the other hand, clinched a ground-breaking deal with a medical aid society, under which he will be the ambassador for the medical insurance company for three years. The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration also partnered Sulu in advertising the new-look vehicle licence discs.
