ZIMBABWEAN golfer Mark Williams, who made the cut in the Sunshine Tour’s Sun Wild Coast Challenge in South Africa, finished tied on 14th place yesterday.

The Zimbabwean, who was tied with South Africans Daniel van Tonder, Ulrich van de Berg, Louis de Jager and MJ Viljoen, pocketed R12 165 for his efforts.

Williams had taken to the field together with fellow countrymen Greg Bentley and Mohammed Mandhu who missed the cut after the two qualifying rounds.

Williams had started the tournament on a wrong footing, but managed to recover in the second round in which he carded a one-under 69 for a total of one-over before closing with an impressive three-under 67.

On the opening round Williams, who is the highest-ranked Zimbabwean on the Sunshine Tour order of merit, had scored a two-over 72 and returned with a 69 to make the cut.

The cut for playing in yesterday’s final round was set at two-over as many players recorded high scores.

Williams took his earnings to R2 254 944,97 after making the cut.

Oliver Bekker won his third title of the season when he shot a final round five-under-par 65 for a total 11-under-par 199.
