MISERY continues to pile for under fire coach Lloyd Mutasa as his side Whawha were held to a goalless draw by bottom-placed Dongo Sawmill in this drab Castle Lager Premiership soccer encounter at Ascot yesterday.

WhaWha are second from the bottom of the table, just two points ahead of Dongo

Sawmill suffered a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture last weekend.

Hitherto yesterday’s encounter, “Samaita”, as Mutasa affectionately known in the local football circles, had been given a five-match ultimatum to garner at least nine points by his paymasters as the club seek to swim away from the murky waters of relegation.

On the ultimatum which was given to him by the executive, Mutasa, however, is yet to receive the official communication by the club but said he is up to the challenge.

His assistant Luke Jukulile, who was last week suspended by the executive, was surprisingly present on the bench yesterday.

There was nothing much to write home about in the first half as both teams took the greater part of the match sizing each other.

Dongo Sawmill, who seemed to be very content with a draw, played a more defensive game from the onset, giving away much possession to WhaWha.

Hwesa made their first attempt at goal in 53 minutes when Deverson Maneya gained possession in the box after receiving a long pass from the back but saw his effort going over the bar with only the goalkeeper to beat.

WhaWha’s meaningful attempt came in the 75th minute when Sylvester Nhamo’s long-range effort flew over the bar.

A minute later, Albert Matewu unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards but found goalkeeper Forward Pfumojena equal to the task.

Mutasa blamed his charges for not utilising the chances that came their way as well as the home advantage.

He said there was need for him to beef up the strike-force and the defence.

“The result shows our weaknesses in front of goal. We play at home and we do not score. If you don’t score you can’t win games and it’s an area that we really need to address during this window period.

“We are eyeing two strikers to come and beef up that department and probably one defender but it all goes on how the negotiations will turn out,” said Mutasa whose side has scored a measly eight goals so far this season.

Justin Bingadadi, the Dongo Sawmill assistant coach, was pleased with the result.

“We have managed to get four points from WhaWha and if we manage to do the same with the other teams that we are going to play then we will survive relegation,” he said.
