West insincere about halting genocide against Palestinians Pope Francis has reiterated his calls for an immediate ceasefire with thoughts of children who have “forgotten how to smile”.

The Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the continued entrenchment of Israeli apartheid in the occupied West Bank through the use of mass surveillance techniques are stunning acts of impunity for decades.

Global citizens are seeing exactly what is going on.

Alternative communication means have been instrumental in bringing to the spotlight in real time and full colour, the genocidal acts that are no longer hidden.

The collective West has proven that it is not keen on having the genocide stopped yet only 12 percent of the world’s population live in the West, and 88 percent live outside the West.

Western mainstream media is shying away from covering the reality on the ground in fear of being labelled anti-Semitic.

The latest United Nations (UN) Resolution 2728’s call demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, was rightly significant, although not to the reasons the authors may have intended. Instead, a day after the resolution was passed, the US and the Israeli governments signed a billions-worth arms deal for Israel to replenish its stockpiles in its annihilation of the Palestinians in Gaza.

At a time, the US and Israel made the arms deal, Pope Francis reiterated his calls for an immediate ceasefire with thoughts of children who have “forgotten how to smile” while UNICEF describes starving children as people who do not “even have the energy to cry”.

Because of US arms shipments to Israel, no one has been spared; journalists, doctors, nurses, aid workers, academics, intellectuals, artistes, the elderly, women and children are among the over 33 000 systematically murdered.

Palestinian knowledge centres and cultural entities have also been destroyed.

Disinterested in peace, ceasefire

What is, however, striking is the lack of interest by the US mainstream media in the UN resolution.

Before the passing of UN Resolution 2728, the US had vetoed three previous resolutions.

On the fourth attempt, where it declined to use its veto, this marked a pivotal moment in Israel’s increased international isolation.

To its Western backers, that Israel has continued to commit acts of genocide with the bombardment and starvation of Palestinians in defiance of the resolution makes Germany, Britain and the EU accomplices of Israel in this  genocide.

It is difficult for the mainstream media in the West to keep up their biased coverage of the genocide in favour of Israel because they are unwilling to acknowledge the truth and want to avoid being labelled as anti-Semitic. However, news of what is happening on the ground is published in real time, and the signs of the genocide are documented as they happen.

Even subconsciously, Western media knows it is contributing to the story of its own standards’ downfall outside of the Western world.

No one is willing to take seriously the claims made by the West to defend the liberties and rights of people while it is complicit in the mass execution and starving of Palestinians by the Israeli government.

According to the Pentagon and State Department, the US is supplying Israel with new arms packages that include more than 1 800 MK84 2 000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs. These 2 000-pound bombs have been used in the mass murder of Palestinians since October 7.

Misery in numbers

The world was shocked when Israel first struck Gaza’s al-Ahli Arab hospital, and it put the blame on a misfired rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Today, all 36 hospitals in Gaza, including the main al-Shifa hospital, lie in ruins from Israeli bombardments, where as much as 70 percent of buildings have been destroyed.

This has caused great misery on Palestinians. As it stands, over 50 000 pregnant Palestinian women cannot find a hospital to give birth in while at least 64 000 breastfeeding women cannot reliably help their babies.

The same goes to the over 700 000 people starving to death because Israel is denying them the right to access basic food. This forms part of the three war crimes being committed by Israel against Palestinians at once; genocide, collective punishment and ethnic cleansing.

If Israel does not abide with the resolution passed by the UN, it means the US is winking that it can continue with the genocide without restraint.

It appears Israel has no intention of abiding by UN Resolution 2728’s call for a ceasefire.

Apartheid in West Bank

Last year, Amnesty International (AI) reported that Israel was using facial recognition systems in the West Bank to entrench its occupation of Palestinians there.

Through this system, Palestinians are made to pass through check points and being scanned in a mass surveillance exercise without their consent and unaware of it.

According to the New York Times, the mass surveillance system is “part of an expansive and experimental effort of collecting and cataloguing the faces of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent”.

The surveillance system, created by an Israeli firm, is now being used as an excuse to hunt down Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Hamas resistance fighters.

This is a justification Israel is using to systematically entrench its apartheid structure in the West Bank. Unfortunately, this mass surveillance technology has been criticised for it routinely gets things wrong, especially at a time Israeli soldiers are abusing, torturing and executing civilians in Gaza.

The Israeli military has always used the Gaza Strip as a laboratory where they test and develop new ways of killing or spying on Palestinians, turning Gaza into a “mass assassination factory”.

The Palestinian aftermath

After Gaza, the world will not be lectured to on anything and about anything by the US and the collective West.

There has proven to be no moral stand-box on the naked transparency of the hypocrisy expressed so far when it comes to Palestinians in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

The Israeli leadership has already shown, through their actions and words, that they will not abide by international law and legal frameworks guiding protection of human rights and humanitarian aid.

Without the collective enforcement of the resolution to a ceasefire in Gaza, greater Palestinian populations will be further starved and systematically eliminated by the Israeli forces in open glare of the world.

The world living outside the Western orbit should ensure that the Palestinians get justice.

If the West can do this to Palestinians, one day the same will be done to other populations.

It will be terrible for people to get recognition in their endeavours to sovereign rule.
