1 Thessalonians 5:8

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes it feels as if we are constantly under attack. As we come out of one calamity we are confronted by another. It’s an endless stream of problems that can sometimes sap the life out of us. We can be so caught up in our existence and the issues around us that everything ceases to matter.

Within this melting pot of ever ending activity, it should be remembered that there are moments that literally take our breath away. Good things happen that we cannot quite explain. It could be a phone call from a long lost friend, a conversation that changes how we view a situation or life in general. A raging headache that ceases. The smile your child brings you as you interact with them, and discover the innocence of their assistance and the simplicity of their minds.

In between this scrum that is our life, there are so many little things that bring us joy. Today let us take some time to sit down and list them. We have become so caught up that we have forgotten the joy that life brings sometimes. The other day I stopped and gave someone a lift into town, as we approached their destination they stretched out their hand to give me what I assumed was the standard fare for passengers.

I politely declined and indicated that I was just trying to help. The person smiled profusely, thanked me and indicated that their prayer was that the LORD would meet me at my point of need. As I sit back and reflect, I have had a few encounters like this. I suppose what touched me the most is the fact that they said thank you, they showed gratitude.

Are we showing gratitude for all the blessings that make up our life? Let’s stop to think and reflect, yes we have so many troubles to deal with but in the midst of all that, we have so many things that bring a smile to our hearts. Let’s take the time to be thankful for all these things. More importantly say a prayer today and thank the Father above for all His mercies, after all He is the Creator. In our hustle and bustle it’s so easy to forget that even He appreciates a thankful heart.

Be blessed
