1 Corinthians 9:24; “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

A few days ago I embarked on a road trip, my destination was a few kilometres from my place of residence. As I drove, I steadily increased the speed and, for some reason, the driver in the car behind me decided to follow closely and mirror whatever I would do.

If I increased my speed, or took a blind corner he would do the same. Even if I was driving irresponsibly or dangerously, he would just follow, doing the exact same.

What was interesting is, at intervals I would leave him behind, but he would increase speed to match mine, overtake the cars between us and in no time he would be right behind me again. l noticed that the drivers behind me were pacing themselves according to my speed, although they had no idea where I was going and why, I needed to travel at that particular speed.

As I finally arrived at my destination literally a few minutes later, the cars behind all passed me and continued down the road. This got me thinking, we are always in a hurry rushing and speeding to get to certain destinations because we think we are late.

The reality is that if God wills, you will always arrive. What you are not in control of is the speed at which the Lord will allow you to travel at as you move towards your destination. We are sometimes discouraged by the pace at which the things we wish for are progressing, we get frustrated and irritated.

We wonder why the Lord is allowing for the processes of life to slow us down when we really need to be getting ahead.

The Lord in His wisdom knows best and sometimes we may not understand why, but He is saying “Run this race at a constant speed, slow down at traffic lights, speed humps and for other motorists on the road. Slowly, but constantly, you will win the race.”

A constant speed will not only ensure that you arrive at your destination, but you will do so safely.

The lesson I learnt is that you don’t always need to run this race the way other people do. You don’t need to go bumper to bumper with your competitors, but instead you should run you own race and plot out your own journey as is determined by GOD.

Be blessed.
