Vincent finishes tied ninth Kieran Vincent

LEADING Zimbabwean amateur golfer Kieran Vincent of Liberty University recorded three-straight sub-par rounds to lead The Flames and finish tied for ninth place at the 2022 General Hackler Championship at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Monday.

As a team, Liberty, ranked number 39, also finished tied for ninth place.

The Flames carded a six-over par 870 (292-287-291) during their three trips around The Dunes Golf and Beach Club (par 72, 7,233 yards).

Vincent with scores of 71, 70 and 70 was one of four golfers to card a five-under par 211 to share ninth place at the Coastal Carolina hosted golf tournament.

The red shirt senior has now posted 23 career top-10 finishes, including all three of his career appearances at the General Hackler Championship.

The native of Harare, Zimbabwe, ranked fourth in the field with 40 pars during the 54-hole event and added 10 birdies.

Austin Duncan 71, 71 and 76 and Austin Barbin 74, 74 and 70) shared 40th place with an overall two-over par 218.

Barbin closed the event with a two-under par 70 and finished tied for the lead in the 87-man field with two eagles.

Auburn which is ranked number 18 claimed the team title with a 25-under-par 839 (281-287-271), closing the tournament with a 17-under par 271 final round.

The 15-team field including 10 programmes currently ranked inside the latest top 50 Golfstat national rankings.

The highest ranked team in the field was number two Oklahoma State, who finished in fourth place with a 15-under par 849 (286-282-281).

A total of 29 golfers finished the event in red figures. Oklahoma State’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen claimed medallist honours with a winning score of 12-under par 204 73, 64 and 67.

Meanwhile, a total of four local professional golfers have entered the Sunshine Tour’s Steyn City Championship qualifiers at Benoni Country Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The quartet of Mohammad Rauf Mandhu, Mark Williams, Greg Bentley and Shaaid Mahmed are all trying their chance to join the field that tees off tomorrow morning until Sunday.
