US$110 000 equipment gift to ease hospital’s headache Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Larry Mavima receives an assortment of equipment donated to Kwekwe General Hospital by Ferochrome producer Zimasco Private Limited yesterday.

Ferrochrome producer, Zimasco Private Limited on Wednesday donated an assortment of equipment worth US$110 000 to Kwekwe General Hospital.

The equipment, which was handed over by Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Larry Mavima, comprised beds, medicine trolleys, computers, electrocardiography (ECG) machines, television sets, solar heaters, air conditioners, blankets among others.

The donation is expected to boost the operations of the health institution, which is the referral hospital for the Kwekwe district. The hospital has been facing operational challenges due to shortages of some essentials.

Senator Mavima applauded the company for giving back to the community. He said the donation came at the right time when the nation was battling the global Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am excited to handover an assortment of equipment to our hospital today. This donation by Zimasco has come at an opportune time whereupon the health facility has been in dire need of right tools. As we celebrate the auspicious occasion, allow me to appreciate other contributions made by Zimasco towards the fight against covid-19 in this district,” said Sen Mavima. Sen Mavima said the Government was also committed to improving the welfare of frontline staff.

“The Government acknowledges the invaluable commitment of health personnel especially in these tying times of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is in this regard that there is a sound commitment to resolving labour related issues in the health sector. In this regard, other non-monetary incentives are pertinent for sustenance of favourable working environments,” he said.

Zimasco’s executive chairman, Mr Lu Xiangkun said the company was committed to supporting the Government in its endeavours to contain the spread of covid-19 and other disease.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Kwekwe Hospital hence this gesture to try to help revamp the health facility. We look forward to continue working together with the hospital and support government in the fight against the spread ocovid-19,” said Mr Xiangkun.
