LONDON. – Manchester United are expected to confirm that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not been offered a new contract when the club publishes its retained list of players at 9am today. The retained list is produced by every club and shows which players are being let go at the end of their current contracts on June 30. The list is released centrally by the Premier League with indications that the Swede is on it.

However, a player can be on the list and still eventually resign for his present club. It just means there is no deal at the moment with United although in the case of Ibrahimovic, he is expected to go.

With Ibrahimovic’s current one-year deal expiring, United are understood to have the option of exercising a 12-month extension.

That would have been triggered in any case had Ibrahimovic started 31 Premier League games for United.

Instead he managed 27, being named as a substitute only once, before his season was ended by the cruciate knee injury which he suffered in the Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht.

Ibrahimovic is recovering after surgery in the United States and may continue his rehabilitation work at United’s Carrington training ground.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals for United and became hugely popular among the supporters but, at 35, he is not expected to be kept on with manager Jose Mourinho looking at recruiting a new first-choice ‘‘number 9’’ – Daily Telegraph.
