THE Zimbabwe National Army has challenged Zimbabweans to desist from exhibiting negative perceptions about their country and focus on working to develop and grow it into a middle income economy by 2030.

Addressing stakeholders who attended an end of year party at 32 Infantry Battalion in Makoni District at the weekend, Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Joe Muzvidziwa called on people to stop bickering, unite and concentrate on development.

“What are we achieving if we continuously reflect on the negative issues of our country?” he said. “We were united in 1980 and we moved for some time as a united people. This is the time in the Second Republic that we must return to the original Zimbabwe, for us to grow the economy to the expected standards of a middle income class by 2030, which demands our collective efforts.”

Brig-Gen Muzvidziwa said people should change their attitude, stance and mindset and focus on things that make Zimbabweans hopeful and realistic when it comes to reviving the country’s economy.

“Perceptions are an important indicator of what results from a number of activities as humankind interact, but for a long time Zimbabwe has endured bad perception,” he said.

“As Zimbabweans, l think we must change our mindset and start to see the good things that are happening among us and we propagate those good things with oneness because it is from them that we can build a better Zimbabwe.”

Brig-Gen Muzvidziwa challenged Manicaland province to be ready to implement the concept of devolution and join hands to devise robust strategies that will bring out mega projects meant to develop the province economically.

“We want also to be ready to support all governmental programmes that will come our way as a province,” he said. “There is this aspect of devolution. People must identify the areas where they have the skills and also be part of the planning.

“When such meetings are called, let us go and share our views and ideas so that we come up with the best programmes for this province.”

Brig-Gen Muzvidziwa directed soldiers to continue to ensure that Zimbabwe remains secure and peaceful in support of the Government’s developmental agendas.

The end of year party was attended by Member of Parliament for Makoni West, Cde Jenifan Muswere, Chief Dzvairo, ward councillor Cde Chingwende, Rusape Town Council officials, local white farmers and the business community from around Rusape.
