At least two people have drowned in Lake Kariba, while another person was still missing after a boat capsized just after launching from Chawara Harbour yesterday.
The boat, which was laden with people and grocery stock for a shop at Gache Gache Fishing Camp, was hit by a wave and started sinking.
At least three passengers managed to swim to safety.
Search efforts have so far led to the discovery of two bodies, including that of a child who was with the mother when tragedy struck.
“The boat was overloaded with people and supplies for a shop across the lake,” said a police source. “It could not hold up when a strong wave hit and it started sinking.”
The accident comes just two months after another boat capsized because of overloading, killing five people.
