He has been on the peripheries of the dendera scene but the last quarter of the year has brought good times to Douglas Chimbetu’s music journey.
Chimbetu has been included in mega gigs over the last few months and on December 31 he closes the year in style when he shares the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The musician says the developments signal good times to roll next year and has promised a showdown with other dendera musicians that had taken a greater share of popularity for the better part of the year.

“I want to thank promoters, especially Simmad Entertainment, that have shown confidence in me. It was a hard year as we struggled to get slots at big shows but the last few months were good,” said Chimbetu.

“Sharing the stage with the likes of Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah means performing before a huge crowd and that inspires me to work hard. It is not easy to please a crowd that would be waiting for big artistes but we are slowly getting there.

“With the current momentum, we are geared for a fruitful 2014. We will make sure that we pose stiff competition to other dendera musicians. It is time to claim our ground.”
