ZIMGOLD yesterday came to the rescue of World Cup-bound Zimbabwe Kabuddi karate team by handing them kits to use at the tournament in Maleka in Malaysia.

The Zimbabwe team will leave the country on Wednesday for the World Cup which begins on April 6 and they are in Group G with USA, Italy and Poland.

Tanaka Muradzi, the trade marketing officer for Zimgold, said they felt it was important to help the team.

‘’We are happy to give the team some kits to use during their World Cup and we hope it will go a long way in motivating the athletes.

‘’We have always supported sport and we are not ending with this karate team as we have partnered with cricket and national soccer teams. “Our aim is to show the outside world that it’s not about the big and popular sports only but even minority sports need our help,” said Muradzi.

Patrick Makova, the Kabuddi Zimbabwe president and team manager, said they were grateful for Zimgold’s intervention.

“We are happy for the support we got from the company and I hope it will help us to come back home with medals and trophies.

“We know we are in a tough group but we have been training hard for the trip and everyone is ready.

‘’We have been in camp for quite sometime and have mastered a lot of things,” said Makova.
