ZIMBABWE’S Champion Trainer 2015-16, Gokhan Terzi, is heading to South Africa as from January 2017 and his Borrowdale Park yard will remain in operation.Terzi said on Saturday that the first batch of horses will leave on the December 14 while the second load will follow in a fortnight.

“I’m taking down 25 of the horses currently in my yard as I have been allocated 40 stables at the Vaal and will be in Johannesburg, permanently, from January 2017.

“My yard in Zimbabwe will be ‘downsized’ significantly to about 25 horses from 80 horses. This yard might eventually close but that depends on the economy of the country,” he said.

The horses being taken to the Vaal include both raced and unraced stock.

Meanwhile, Road To Dubai successfully defended her HRIB Gold Cup Sprint title in spectacular fashion at Borrowdale at the weekend.

The race, over 1 200 metres, saw Road To Dubai beating nine other runners. Owned by The Sheik and bred by Scott Bros, Road to Dubai won this race in 2015, and was Champion Sprinter in the 2015-16 season again putting her name among some of the best runners.

The five-year-old gelding is owned by John Koumides and trained by Kirk Swanson.

Road To Dubai won by 2.50 lengths as Gokhan Terzi-trained Newton Power ran second and Sheik’s Brashee, also by The Sheik came third.

Comanche Brave filled the fourth spot.
