Television actor Muwengwa dies
Muwengwa (48) died on Friday night at a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was receiving treatment for diabetes and heart complications.
Actresses Tatenda Mavetera and Pretty Xaba, with whom Muwengwa starred in local television soap Studio 263, Saturday expressed shock at the death of the affable actor.
Speaking from Johannesburg yesterday, Muwengwa’s wife, Ms Tafadzwa Tema, said Muwengwa died at around 6pm on Friday.
She said the family was facing financial challenges in repatriating the body to Zimbabwe.
“He was in hospital after being diagnosed with heart problems and diabetes.
“We have completed all the papers to get him out of the hospital, but we do not have funds to take the body to Zimbabwe,” said Ms Tema. Mavetera and Xaba were Saturday running around to raise about US$1 800 that is required by the Chinyanga family to bring the body back home.
By midday, the actresses had received financial pledges from the National Arts Council (NAC) and Studio 263 director Godwin Mawuru.
