Tekere recuperating in hospital

The former Zanu-PF secretary-general, is recovering at a private hospital in Harare.
He was transferred from Mutare a few weeks ago, and is battling cancer.

“I’m still wondering if this is reality,” said Tekere in reference to his recovery.
“It is phenomenal considering that I came all the way from Mutare in an ambulance and unable to walk. To those within the religious circles you might call it a miraculous recovery.”
The maverick politician, nicknamed “2-Boy”, is a member of a prominent medical aid society which he said, was taking care of both his medical bill and treatment.

He however could not confirm and deny claims that his medical bills were being taken care of by his friends in Zanu-PF.
Senior Zanu PF officials who have visited Tekere, include Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Webster Shamu, Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Saviour Kasukuwere as well as former Finance Minister Simba Makoni.
Tekere was expelled from Zanu-PF in 1988 and formed the Zimbabwe Unity Movement.

Finance Minister and MDC-T Secretary General Tendai Biti was a member of that party.
After a series of electoral defeats, Tekere rejoined Zanu-PF in 2006. A letter sent to him by then Zanu-PF national chairman John Nkomo dated 7 April 2006, said he would have to wait five years to run for public office as per the Zanu-PF constitution.

Tekere is eligible to run from April next year. — talkzimbabwe.com.
