New kid on the block Tawanda Boni has released his first album titled “Mavambo”.

In an interview, “Diesel Power” as the musician calls himself yesterday said he took time to work on the album.

“Financial problems caused the delay of the release. I wrote the songs in 2012 but could not record them,” he said.

Boni said he recorded the album after the intervention of some promoters.

“There are several promoters who then assisted me to engage Diamond Studios for recording,” he said.

Tracks on the album are “Mavambo”, “Dziva Rerudo”, “Murombo Munhu”, “Matanda Mashava” and “Ndakakumirira”.

“I am optimistic that people will accept my album that is being played on radio,” he said.

The musician was born in Manicaland where he did his primary and secondary education.

“Music is in me and I got the inspiration from other great musicians like Nicholas Zakaria, Alick Macheso and James Chimombe,” he said.

He said he was aware of how Zimdancehall has stormed the music industry as serious competition to old genres.

“It is clear that Zimdancehall is the genre of the moment but my opinion is that sungura will not fade away,” he said.

Boni has a full band and will start holding shows soon.

“I have a live band and we are looking forward to start our shows this year when we practice more songs,” he said.

He is working on DVD album that will be released in February.

“The videos are almost done but will take time before their release because I am financing the project,” he said.
