Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial leadership has warned party cadres in Zvimba North to stop jostling for Ignatius Chombo’s vacant seat, but instead urged them to remain focused on mobilising voters ahead of next year’s elections.

The seat fell vacant following the sacking of Chombo from both the ruling party and Government over allegations involving abuse of office. The warning was issued following alleged reports that there was infighting and divisions over who to replace Chombo.

Addressing Zanu-PF youths in Murombedzi on Friday, provincial youth chairperson Cde Vengai Musengi said party procedures were supposed to be adhered to in electing Chombo’s shadow replacement. Cde Musengi said any one eligible for the post was free to contest.

“Anyone is free to take Chombo’s post, but let’s do that peacefully,” he said Cde Musengi said people should vote for an honest candidate who had the interest of the party at heart.

“Elect leaders who are eligible and willing to serve the interest of the party,” he said. Cde Musengi noted that the province was going to elect new district leadership after next year’s elections.
