MANCHESTER. – Raheem Sterling believes he has joined a club capable of winning silverware “year in, year out” as he admitted he had “no excuses” not to make his £49 million move to Manchester City from Liverpool a resounding success.

The England international also thanked Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and his agent Aidy Ward for their help in his blossoming career as he spoke for the first time about the mind-boggling transfer which makes him the most expensive-ever English player.

Sterling flew out to Australia yesterday morning to join his new Manchester City team-mates on the club’s pre-season tour the day after completing his £49 million switch from Liverpool.

City had been chasing Sterling all summer and finally sealed a deal for the former Liverpool forward on Tuesday after the player successfully underwent his medical and agreed terms on a five-year contract worth £200 000-a-week.

Sterling (20) underwent a medical on Tuesday and signed a five-year deal which could be worth around £200 000-a-week, but maintained that the size of the fee will not faze him.

And he added that his first impressions of the set-up at City meant Manuel Pellegrini’s squad had no reason not to win silverware.

Asked what excited him about joining City, he said: “The world class players that are here and a squad that are capable of winning things year in, year out.

“The more quality players that are around you, the more quality it brings out in you so I can’t wait to get started and play alongside them.

“The facilities are top class – there’s everything you need here and plenty more. There’s everything you need to take you to the next level so there’s no excuses!” – The Daily Express.
