MIGHTY Warriors skipper Felistas Muzongondi says they are banking on the home advantage when they host Cameroon on Sunday at Rufaro in a showdown for a place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Mighty Warriors are on the verge of making history and becoming the first Zimbabwe national football team to qualify for the Olympics. The senior women national football team are seeking to overturn a 1-2 deficit from the reverse leg in Cameroon two weeks ago.

Yesterday, the team played Harare City juniors as they fine-tuned their preparations ahead of their biggest tie in history.

Veteran midfielder Muzongondi believes they can beat the West African giants if they utilise home advantage.

“We have an advantage of an away goal and now they are coming here, we have to use the home advantage,” said Muzongondi.

“What we all need in this game is to score an early goal so that we can qualify for the Olympic Games in Brazil.

“We should not allow them to score first. Our aim is to score many goals, if possible, but an early goal will make us stable.”

Before the win over Zambia, the Mighty Warriors had last won a home game early last year against Botswana.

“We keep on encouraging each other and we are not reading a lot into recent performances at home, but we are focused on the new game and we have to concentrate on it fully for the 90 minutes,” she said.

“Morale is very high in camp.

“We are motivating each other and we know we are on the brink of making history so everyone is raring to go and going to Brazil is a reality.

“There is stiff competition in camp there are so many players in camp fighting for positions.

“There is no pressure.

“We are not putting ourselves under pressure and we just have to play our normal game.”

The team which was forced to play under difficult circumstances in Cameroon, where they arrived late, are confident that they will beat the West Africans.

Mighty Warriors striker Rutendo Makore said since their return from Yaounde, they have been working on some of the weaknesses which they showed in the first leg.

“According to the game we played in Cameroon, we have no pressure. We thank the coaches for giving us enough time to prepare,” said Makore.

“They were beating us to the ball and they are physically superior to us, but I believe with the way we have been working we should be able to hold them and match them as the coaches worked on all that and we don’t have any fear.”

The Black Rhinos Queens forward said everyone appears ready for the tie and if given a chance she would also want to excel.

“We should win the match and qualify for the Olympic Games. As a striker, I am also ready to play my part and score if I am given a chance,” said Makore.
