Six ivory poachers arrested National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi

SIX suspected poachers have been arrested in Beitbridge after they were found in possession of an elephant tusk.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects were arrested on Friday while looking for buyers. 

“Detectives from CID minerals, flora and fauna unit in Beitbridge acted on received information and arrested Mgcini Nyathi aged 25, Professor Nkala (25), Ngqabutho Ncube aged 31, Phinias Shumba aged 24, Vincent Kokera aged 29 and Mazibuse Nkala aged 23 at Makhado Business Centre in connection with unlawful possession of ivory,” he said.

The suspects have since appeared in court where they were remanded in custody, while investigations continue.
