Award-winning gospel artiste Blessing Shumba has said the song “Tachengetwa”, which is circulating on the streets, was leaked before its release date set for March.

He said the song, which is being used as a cover for an album containing his old songs, was a half-baked project.

In an interview with The Herald, Shumba said he was yet to establish how the song was leaked.

“I am really shocked,” he said.

“I have been receiving calls from people commenting on the song since early December. To be honest, I don’t even know who and how that song leaked.”

Shumba said he will not re-record the song.

“It is my song which I recorded in the studio, which is part of my 2019 project,” he said. “I am not going to redo it because it’s already popular. I will add it as it is to my album.”

“Tachengetwa” was produced by Joseph Makiwa and will be part of Shumba’s forthcoming album “NdiMweya”.

The “Mufaro” hitmaker blamed piracy for spreading the song.

“I am yet to find out the source of the leakage, but all this was caused by piracy,” said Shumba.

“For instance, in Mutare, there are no shops selling original Compact Disc, rather you get your music on the streets.”

Shumba, who has been quiet for a long time, said he was waiting for his last album “Tariro Yedu” to shine before releasing new stuff.

“Tariro Yedu” made a mark in 2018 as most of the songs on the album like “My Season” and “Tinokunda” topped the charts on various radio stations.

“My management and I agreed to let the album shine by not interrupting it with any new album and ‘My Season’ is one of the songs on that album that was number one and two for a while on Radio Zimbabwe,” he said.

Shumba claimed that his upcoming album “Ndi Mweya” was inspired by the Holy Spirit.

“As a pastor, I talk to God and God talks to me and this time he told me to give the Holy Spirit to his people, that’s why my album is entitled “Ndi Mweya” meaning it’s the Holy Spirit,” he said.

“The album is going to have at least four songs on the Holy Spirit.”

Shumba said his fans should anticipate a blast in 2019 as he might release a Shona album and an English one which would be titled “King of Kings”.
