LONDON. — Jose Mourinho will make Manchester United serial winners again. Old Trafford treble-winner Teddy Sheringham is convinced he is the right man to restore the club’s fast-fading reputation.

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho is expected to be announced as Louis van Gaal’s replacement in the Old Trafford hot seat this week.

And Sheringham has backed him to bring the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson back after United won just one trophy — this season’s FA Cup — since the Scot departed in 2013.

Sheringham said: “Things haven’t been going well for some time now for Louis van Gaal, despite the FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace, so Manchester United have had plenty of time to look for an alternative manager, and they’ve landed on Jose Mourinho.

“The man has a winning reputation and more than anything, Manchester United have to get back to winning ways.

“It’s all about winning things absolutely, yet with United it has to be done with style. Mourinho has been around English football long enough to understand that.

“Jose will have seen two managers come and go at Old Trafford, seen all the speculation, he’s been in the country while it has been happening.

“He knows what people expect. That winning mentality is there for all to see, but he’ll be clever enough to change his philosophy and get into the Manchester United mould.”

But Sheringham did warn Mourinho it will not be just about winning at United, he will have to do it in style something he does not have a reputation for. — The Daily Star.
