Seed giant Seed Co has hailed women for the important role they play in agricultural production.

The company went further to say if women are empowered, the country will be assured of food security.

Speaking during a Seed Co field day held at Mrs Cynthia Mupfure’s homestead at Katema Village in Chiweshe, Mazowe District, recently to mark International Women’s Day, commercial agronomist Mrs Wendy Madzura said the field day was held at a woman’s farm to show the world the great work that women are doing. She said women account for more than 75 percent of her company’s communal area clientele and as such, there was need to assist them in every possible way to ensure gender balance agriculture.

“Women should be hailed for their important role in agricultural production and if they are empowered enough then the country will be assured of food security,” she said.

“Today, we join the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day, so we decided that the field day should be held at a woman’s field specifically to show the world the great work that women are doing.”

Mrs Mupfure encouraged women to join the 11 Tonne Plus Club competition where up to 50 farmers with at least 10 hectares under maize compete.
