A second psychiatric examination has been ordered for a 17-year-old boy who allegedly raped three children aged between three and 10. Presiding magistrate Mrs Estere Chivasa, sitting in Chitungwiza, said the boy needed to be examined since his behaviour was unexpected of someone his age.

He was first examined by a psychiatrist at Harare Central Hospital. Mrs Chivasa remanded the boy in custody to Friday this week as she seeks a second opinion. “Accused, you need to be mentally examined by another doctor for a second opinion and that shall be done at prison,” she said.

The boy is alleged to have raped the minors between December last year and January this year. Two of the victims are his cousins aged three and nine, while the third victim (10) is the daughter of his parents’ tenant. The Form 2 boy allegedly raped the 10-year-old girl in the presence of his nine-year-old cousin who had visited them during the school holiday.

He also allegedly raped his cousin from Harare during her stay at the house the same month. The boy was not asked to plead to four counts of rape when he appeared before Mrs Chivasa. Mr Lovet Muringwa prosecuted.
