Flame Lilly coach, Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera is happy with his recent acquisition, midfielder Ganizani Pensula, who had a good game in their goalless draw against Bindura United last Saturday at Chipadze.
Pensula crossed the floor from Green Buffalo last week to Flame Lilly, who are on a reinforcement drive ahead of the second half of the season in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.

With the championship race proving a tough and unpredictable one for most clubs, the teams are battling to strengthen their squads.
Saruchera said he was impressed with Pensula’s performance on Saturday and said they hope to register at least two more players before the end of this week.

“He played very well, in fact he was the man-of-the-match. We are still assessing some of the players and we are likely to register them this week.

“We are looking at a maximum of three and minimum of two players. We are targeting strikers.

“Obviously, we want to boost our squad to fight for the championship race,” said Saruchera.

With 15 games played so far, the battle appears to be among the top five teams — current log leaders Gunners, Bindura United, Flame Lilly, Mushowani and newboys Ngezi Platinum.

Mushowani set the pace for the title race before they were toppled by Bindura United, who were also elbowed out by a resurgent Gunners over the weekend.

“We are just waiting for our chance to go on top. We are the only ones who haven’t been there among the top five teams,” said Saruchera.
“We just want to make sure that we are close to the pacesetters so that when the opportunity comes we take it.”

Flame Lilly are currently in third place with 31 points.

They are three points behind Gunners and face in-form Ngezi Platinum at Chikurubi on Saturday.
