Rusape Town Council has short-listed nine out of the 26 candidates who applied for the vacant post of town secretary.

The short listing was done by three councillors, Clever Chimuse, Juliet Matope and Bernard Chikomo, who are chairpersons of council committees and were being assisted by two secondments from the United Urban Councils’ Association of Zimbabwe.

Council chairperson Alderman Amon Chawasarira and audit chairperson, Mr Lyton Sithole were observers.

On Tuesday, all councillors convened a special full council meeting and adopted all the nine short-listed candidates.

The short-listed candidates are Rusape town treasurer, Mr Solomon Gabaza, who is also the acting town secretary, Kwekwe City planner Mr Edmund Magaya, Rushinga Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Paradzai Munyede, Gokwe Town chief administration officer Mr Alexander Nyandoro and Mr Brian Rufasha, the chief executive officer of Tongogara Rural District Council.

Also short-listed were Mr Jimmy Chiundura, the audit manager of Chitungwiza Municipality, former Chinhoyi town clerk Mr Mungororo Mazai and Gokwe town’s internal auditor Mr Tawaziwa Mavhenge.

Notable names to fall by the wayside were Chipinge Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Blessing Mamvosha and Chipinge District Administrator Mr William Mashava.

In an interview, Alderman Chawasarira said the short-listed candidates would be interviewed on a date to be announced.

He further said that the names were adopted unanimously by the full council.

“Yes, we adopted all the nine candidates that were short-listed by the committee,” he said.

“These candidates will be interviewed soon, but we do not have the date now. It is from these nine that we will get the best three whose names will be forwarded to the Local Government Board for further interviews.”
