SYDNEY. — Governing body SANZAAR said yesterday it will adopt the modified bonus point system used in Super Rugby this season for this year’s four-nation Rugby Championship. The tournament, featuring southern hemisphere powers New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina, will replace its four-try bonus point system with a bonus point awarded to a team finishing three or more tries ahead of its opponent.

The bonus point for losing by seven or fewer points remains unchanged.

SANZAAR chief Andy Marinos said Super Rugby had produced “some of the most exciting and complete 80-minute games in the history of the competition this season, spurred on by the introduction of the new bonus point system”. — AFP.
