SABLES and former Scotland age-grade flanker Andrew Rose led his Boroughmuir side to a memorable victory in the Scottish BT Cup rugby final with a 55-17 demolition of Hawick. A fourth Cup win came after ’Muir dominated from start to finish in Saturday’s BT Cup final as they added to the titles they won in 2000, 2001 and 2005.

Rose was ecstatic following their first BT Cup win in 10 years.

“I’m over the moon. I think the boys played some absolutely fantastic rugby. We got everything we worked on into the game and the subs came on and made a huge impact,” said Rose.

“We’re really happy with the way it ended. “We have struggled a bit with the way we have started games, often taking 10-15 minutes to get into things, today we drew a line under that and said let’s get out there and just play rugby and I think we did. “I don’t think anyone took a backward step from first minute to the last.”

“Muir coach Bruce Aitchison also heaped praises on his boys whom he believes were a different lot in the weekend’s game.

“We started well and just kept building even though we got points up we didn’t lose our shape and we were able to maintain that,” said Aitchison.

“We started to find space and physically our conditioning suited that pitch and we were able to keep going. Hawick really struggled to make any inroads.

“We hope the Cup win is a marker for next season. “Myself, Ben Fisher, Steve Bates and Ian Jeffrey (technical team) have set out a vision. After exceeding expectations with promotion, this season realistically the aim was to stay up.

“But we’ve beaten Melrose at the Greenyards and Ayr at Millbrae which are indicators of what we can achieve.

“You add that to the way we’ve won the Cup then it does bode well.”

A half-time score of 36-10 suggested the game was practically over as a contest and so it proved in the second half as Hawick were again put on the back foot by ruthless Boroughmuir.
