Chitungwiza residents last Wednesday embarked on a clean-up campaign at the town’s main hospital as part of efforts to improve public health in the area.

Scores of people who volunteered to clean up Chitungwiza Central Hospital swept around the hospital, picking up litter and clearing garbage.

They also cleaned windows and floors at the hospital to show their commitment to efforts to support the public health institution.

The hospital’s chief executive officer, Dr Obadiah Moyo, commended the community for their work.

“We are pleased with their work and we encourage them to come and do the chores they want at the hospital.

“Maintaining a clean environment is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.

Councillors led the clean-up campaign.

Clr Lameck Chibvogodze said it was important to support the local hospital.

“We have held several meetings with the community telling them that this is the only hospital we have, so we should help anytime when there is a need,” he said. “We need to support Dr Moyo and his staff to maintain a clean environment around the hospital.”

Chitungwiza Central Hospital was opened in 1984 to serve Harare’s main satellite town and surrounding areas.
