A Harare man appeared in court yesterday on allegations of raping his 11-year-old niece.

The accused (26), appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, facing rape charges.

He was remanded in custody to September 10 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr Sabastian Mutizirwa alleged that sometime in January 2019 in the evening, the accused was at home with the complainant.

He then locked the door and prepared for bed in the same room he shared with the complainant.

The man raped the complainant once and warned her not to tell anyone.

He continued to rape the complainant whenever he got the chance.

The matter came to light on August 26 when the complainant went to ZRP Kuwadzana and narrated her ordeal to one of the officers.

She was referred to ZRP Dzivaresekwa where she reported the matter.

The girl was also referred to hospital for medical examination and the medical affidavit will be produced in court as an exhibit.
