All Chitungwiza residents are accessing water freely from the Presidential boreholes, without any checks or tests, contrary to some messages being circulated by naysayers on social media that water was being distributed on partisan lines.

Our reporters visited the Mangoromera area in St Mary’s yesterday where they observed that water was being accessed freely without any tests or checks and no one had the faintest idea who those fetching water might support.

By lunchtime people from all walks of life could be seen accessing water without any hassle.

Interviewed residents instead thanked President Mnangagwa from bailing them out from the perennial water woes in the area.

“So far there is no challenge in accessing the water. The borehole is being accessed by anyone from the community. It has helped us a lot since our taps are always dry. One of the bush pump boreholes which we used to rely on had dried up and it was contaminated by rust. We thank the President for the borehole scheme,” said Mrs Jane Mushawatu.

Mr Elias Musonza said the borehole has brought convenience to the area.

“Water is being accessed freely without any challenges. Due to the efficiency of the system they are short queues being witnessed daily.

“Each time one visits the borehole water will be readily available. There is also no limit to the amount of water one is allowed to fetch,” he said.

The St Mary’s ward 3 councillor John Matiyenga also shot down allegations that water was being accessed on partisan lines.

“Issue circulation on social media is false that people are accessing water on partisan lines. In fact, we want to thank President Mnangagwa for providing us with clean water.

“The water is for everyone. Our President is for all Zimbabweans,” he said.

This follows a malicious video circulating on social media in which a woman alleges that only Zanu PF card carrying members were eligible to benefit from the Presidential borehole schemes.
