Commander-In-Chief of Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Mugabe has promoted Group Captain Simbarashe Muringa to the rank of Air Commodore. The appointment was done in terms of Section 5(1) b of the Defence Act (Chapter 11:2).Conferring the new rank to the officer at the Air Force of Zimbabwe Headquarters in Harare yesterday, the Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal Perrance Shiri said his promotion was due to dedication to duty and competency.

“Your dedication and loyalty to duty convinced us to recommend you to the Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces for promotion,” he said.

Air Marshal Shiri said promotions go in hand with lots of responsibilities, so Air Commodore Muringa should be exemplary and should execute his duties effectively.

“Do not take this promotion lightly as the nation expects you to execute your duties with responsibility, to be exemplary and to be a role model to your subordinates,” he said.

“Remember the sky is the limit for you. If you continue exhibiting that hardwork you will continue rising up the ladder.”

Air Commodore Muringa was attested into the Air Force of Zimbabwe on January 19, 1981 as an Aircraftman and has attended various courses outside the country.

From 1982, he rose through the ranks from Leading Aircraftman in 1982 to become Group Captain in 2004.

Last Wednesday, President Mugabe promoted two senior ZDF officers, Brigadier-General Sibusisiwe Moyo to the rank of Major General and Air Commodore Jacob Nzvede to the rank of Air Vice Marshal.
