The HEAD of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Mugabe has paid tribute to members of the security forces for their diligent service. Addressing thousands of people who gathered at the National Heroes’ Acre for the National Heroes Day commemorations yesterday, President Mugabe said the security forces were a shining beacon throughout the world.
Today is the National Defence Forces Day.

“Allow me to pay tribute to our defence, police, prison and security services for their unflinching and dedicated service in guaranteeing and maintaining peace, stability and the security of our free and sovereign Zimbabwe.

“Their hard work and long hours ensured that a peaceful atmosphere in the country was guaranteed not only during the election period but also at all times.

“On the international scene, our security forces continue to make us proud as they contribute towards the maintenance of international peace and security through their participation in various United Nations Peacekeeping Operations,” said President Mugabe.

As part of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ Community Assistance Week villagers from Seke rural district Ward 12 received free medical treatment from members of the defence forces recently.

The villagers said the assistance programme was welcome as it afforded them free medial care at their doorstep as they had to travel to Beatrice in search of medical care.

Defence Minister Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa told the villagers that as long as they made formal requests, the defence forces would provide assistance.

The four-member medical team provided free diagnosis and medication to the villagers.
Cde Mnangagwa last week commissioned four classroom blocks built by the defence forces at Nyakasikana satellite school in Beatrice as part of the assistance week.
