The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust has petitioned Parliament to promulgate a law that criminalises actions of persons or organisations that call for the imposition of sanctions against the country.
Acting Speaker of the National Assembly Tatenda Mavetera on Tuesday informed the House that Parliament had received the petition and referred it to the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
The ZAST also called for the engagement of stakeholders to discuss the matter.
The petition by ZAST comes on the back of growing calls for Government to punish unpatriotic individuals and organisations that call for sanctions against the country.
Zimbabwe is under sanctions from the West that were imposed at the behest of the opposition MDC Alliance and has caused untold suffering to ordinary citizens.
Sadc has since set an Anti-Sanctions Day to lobby for the removal of the sanctions against Zimbabwe.
