Two nurses have been fined $150 000 each for operating an illegal private clinic in Mhangura.

Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Ms Melody Rwizi fined Henry Nobert Mahogo (55) and Mafios Choto after they pleaded guilty to three counts.

The court heard through prosecutor Ms Odrah Chitoro that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Makotore, an inspector with the Medicine Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ), was checking on compliance with pharmaceutical requirements on July 30 in the company of detectives.

They visited the clinic where Whisper Mahere, a locum nurse, indicated that it was owned by Mahogo, before various medicines were found after the detectives searched the place.

Mahogo was charged for violating the MCAZ’s category of medicine distribution.

Expired medicines were also found at the clinic in contravention of statutory instrument 150/1991. Mahogo, who is employed as a registered nurse at Makonde Christian Hospital, was not licenced to carry out the operations.
