ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League newcomers MWORS and Shamwa United settled for a one-all draw at Ngoni Stadium in Norton during the Easter weekend.

The new boys managed to restrict Shamva United who had gone into the second round as log leaders after thrashing Karoi United 6-0 in the opening encounter.

MWORS who got promotion from Mashonaland West faced off with their opponents who have come into represent Mashonaland Central.

Veteran Chris Samakwere’s goal in the 44th minute saw the ambitious Norton-based side getting the lead in the 44th minute while Shamva, who boast of seasoned players, managed to get a point in the dying stages of the game.

Shamva United absorbed seasoned players, who were deemed excess baggage by Tonderai Ndiraya at Simba Bhora, who are now playing in the Premier Soccer League.

Brighton Tuwaya and Dexter Phiri are some of the former Simba Bhora players now with Shamva Mine.

Ralph Kawondera, the Shamva Mine coach, said he was happy with the point on the road.

“It was a good game and we are happy that we managed to get a point on the road. The draw will make us want more when we play at home in our next match,” said Kawondera.
