The Chipinge Rotary Club has donated a building and books for a community library in Chipinge town, a development that has been widely received by the community.

Speaking during a recent official handover ceremony, Chipinge Rotary Club president Mr Mekias Gwamanda said the new community library would mostly cater for primary and secondary school pupils.

“I am excited that we have finally set up a community library in Chipinge.  The Rotary club has also donated furniture and books, which will be used to start the project,” he said.

“Now that we have a community library, we are appealing to the business community, former pupils and parents to come on board and donate books for the benefit of our children. We will ensure that the library will have new books, which will match today’s way of living.”

The community library will be opened at St Albertina Primary School in Chipinge town.

“For long, the Chipinge community has had no access to a library, as Chipinge Town Council shut down the only library it had long back,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, a librarian based in Chipinge Ms Tinashe Kuzuwazuwa said there was need for Government to revive community libraries.
