THE recently appointed Hwedza Rural District Council chief executive officer, Mr Frederick Jongwe, has won a platinum award from the Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officers’ Network.

The award ceremony was held in Harare recently.

Mr Jongwe’s accolade is in recognition of his efforts in demonstrating effective use of communication whose net effect has seen the rural district council speeding up infrastructural investments.

Through effective use of communication, the chief executive officer who has been at the helm of Hwedza for the last eight months, has also been able to cultivate and maintain relationships with some stakeholders who were allegedly on all-time loggerheads with the council for over a decade, mostly on both commercial and residential stands deals.

In her remarks, Mashonaland East Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Apollonia Munzverengwi congratulated Mr Jongwe saying he was the province’s pacesetter and through hard work, this is what the Government was looking forward to as the country embarks on a journey towards an upper middle income economy status by 2030.

“Congratulations our CEO Mr Jongwe, you are now our provincial pacesetter, this is what the Government nationally wants towards our vision 2030 upper middle income status.

“During my 2023 Marondera Agriculture show speech, I strongly emphasised to all CEOs that we have all the information about who got how much from the state and your rate payers, according to our bluebook, we shall be seriously revisiting your books,” she said.

In his congratulatory remarks after the awards, Hwedza District Development Coordinator, Mr Kenneth Shumba said:

“This is very exciting to hear about, we must all learn and ask from this pacesetter CEO, his award is an order for us to follow, ask and listen to his corporate culture of running corporate businesses.”

The Environmental Management Agency education and publicity officer for Mashonaland East, Mr Astas Mabwe said, Hwedza Rural District Council led by Mr Jongwe has improved on waste management.

“After such an award, EMA is still imploring them to continue greening Hwedza by planting more trees, stopping veldfires and passionately protecting wetlands as the award-winning chief executive officer is a pacesetter in the province,” he said.

Hwedza District Health Officer, Doctor Herbert Bandiki who is presently managing seven health centres commended Mr Jongwe for being responsive to the district’s needs.

“We do not know where this recently appointed Mr Jongwe was all this time, imagine within a few months, he has equipped and opened many health facilities in Hwedza.

“Personally, I was excited when he drilled a borehole at Chirume clinic where the staff members were now fetching water from the river, at times the community,” he said.
