An 18-year-old Chitungwiza man allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl with the assistance of her neighbour. The neighbour (23) lured the girl to her house for the night and assisted the young man by holding the girl’s hands while he raped her. The duo was not asked to plead when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo.

The matter was remanded to October 23. It is alleged that on August 30 this year at around 7pm the woman went to the complainant’s mother and requested that the girl come to her house to sleep over since she was afraid of being alone with her children during the night. The girl agreed and the two proceeded to the woman’s house. After 15 minutes a young man came to the woman’s house and the two whispered something to each other.

The woman then moved her children who were fast asleep on the bed to another part of the house. She told the girl that the young man was going to sleep on the bed. The girl felt uncomfortable with the sleeping arrangement so she decided to go back home. The woman then allegedly pushed her onto the bed and gagged her mouth with a cloth. She held her hands tightly while the young man stripped her and raped her once.

After the act, the woman locked up the girl and threatened her against disclosing the matter to anyone. The girl was released the following morning. She narrated her ordeal to her friend, but the two kept it a secret. The matter only came to light on October 8 after the girl’s mother heard that her daughter had sex with the accused young man. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the duo.
