Walter Mswazie in Mwenezi
Zanu-PF Masvingo is targeting at least 95 000 votes in Mwenezi district for the ruling party and its presidential candidate President Mnangagwa in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Mwenezi and Chiredzi districts are some of the ruling party’s strongholds in the province as evidenced by the high turnout of voters in the just ended primary elections.

Addressing ruling party members during an inter-district meeting in Mwenezi over the weekend, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial secretary for Commissariat Cde Jevas Masosota said the party was expecting a landslide victory in the coming elections in the district.

Cde Masosota said Mwenezi was an undisputed Zanu-PF stronghold as evidenced by the failure by opposition parties to breach the ruling party fortress.

“We are looking forward to get at least 95 000 votes in Mwenezi East and West for Zanu-PF and our presidential candidate, President Mnangagwa,” said Cde Masosota.

He exhorted ruling party members to observe peace during the campaign period saying President Mnangagwa has repeatedly underscored the need for a peaceful election for the outcome to be credible.

The Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial commissar said the ruling party campaign juggernaut was now in full swing.

“We want all those who failed to make it in the primaries to work with the victors and embark on joint campaigns to secure a landslide victory for our presidential candidate and the party,” he said.

“Zanu-PF members are also urged to observe peace, we want peaceful campaigns and there is no room for violence, all Zanu-PF parliamentary candidates who sailed through in the primaries will take delivery of cars once the primary elections process is complete,” said Cde Masosota.

He said the ruling party was now in campaign mode with several rallies to be addressed by senior ruling party officials already lined up throughout the province until elections are held.

Cde Masosota said the target by Zanu-PF to retain all the 26 House of Assembly seats was achievable thanks to the ruling party’s proven track-record as a development-oriented party.

In his address, Zanu-PF Mwenezi East parliamentary candidate Cde Joosbi Omar said victory was certain for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa in the forthcoming elections as the district was a “no go” area for the opposition.

“There is no opposition to talk about here (Mwenezi).

“We are going to romp to victory and we promise President Mnangagwa at least 45 000 votes in Mwenezi East                       alone,” said Cde Omar to thunderous applause.

Cde Priscilla Moyo, who is the ruling party parliamentary candidate in Mwenezi West echoed the same sentiments describing Zanu-PF as an unstoppable machine in her constituency.

She promised that the ruling party and President Mnangagwa will bag more than 45 000 votes in the constituency.
