DELTA Corporation Limited and the Zimbabwe National Army last week commissioned a four-unit classroom block worth over $58 000 at Mutsamvu Primary School in Chimanimani East.

Through its Schools Assistance Programme launched in 1996, Delta also built three toilet blocks.

It donated building materials, stationary and sanitary wear for the girl child valued at $40 000.

It also handed over 164 desks and chairs.

ZNA provided labour while the community mobilised resources like sand and quarry stones.

Work started in January 2016.

The event was attended by Chimanimani East legislator, Dr Samuel Undenge, Senator Esther Chikuni and Manicaland provincial education director, Mr Edward Shumba.

Mr Shumba said the ministry was grateful because of the work that Delta and ZNA had done for the community, adding that the availability of classrooms had improved the pass-rate at the school.

“In 2012, this school had 13,79 percent pass-rate but in 2016, it jumped to 56 percent.

Dr Undenge, who is also the patron of Mutsamvu Primary School, pledged to electrify the school.

Rome was not built in a day, so we still have a long way to go in developing this school.

“I am assuring you that very soon electricity will be connected to this school. Power will be drawn from Shinja Secondary School and will light up Mutsamvu Business Centre and then Mutsamvu Primary and Secondary schools.

“We want computer lessons to start as soon as possible so that the school catches up with technology,” he said.

Deputy Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Joel Muzvidziwa, said the army was always ready to assist in development projects.

“As the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, we are contributing to Government’s Zim-Asset blueprint’s Infrastructure Utilities Cluster.

“We are ever ready, resources permitting, to be part of the development goals of Manicaland Province and with effective coordination we see the province achieving its big vision.”

Delta Corporation general manager Audit and Risk Management, Mr Fanuel Gwiza, said: “Delta aspires for a better world by contributing to making a difference in the community.

We believe in a brighter, better thriving and growing society and today something new has come to fulfil this aspiration in Mutsamvu community and we are proud of that.”
