MUTARE Sports Club will on Saturday host Police Defenders in a friendly rugby match at Mutare Sports Club. The Shumbas were on second position on the log before the Inter City League came to a halt. Shumbas coach Mackenzie Munetsi said he is very happy with the friendly match.

“We do not know whether the Intercity League will resume or not. All we want is game time for our players. We want to keep the players busy and united. These matches will go a long way to keep the boys focused.

“We cannot have training sessions with the boys without game time. It will be very unfair to them. We will end up losing them. We want to remain focused as a team and maintain the standard of our play.

‘’ When the league stopped, we were doing very well,” he said.

Munetsi said they will continue to have friendly matches.

He also said they want to continue to give their supporters entertainment.

“We will have as many friendly matches as possible. Next month, we will push for the local Sevens games. We do have teams locally who will be joining us just to give the players game time.

“We will play Africa University, Marymount, Mutare Teachers College, Changadzi Police and ZRP Murahwa. We will also divide our team into three. We will have Mountain Lions which will be made up of Chikanga based players.

“We will have East Giants which will be made up of Dangamvura based boys and Shumbas made up of town boys. All we are trying to do is to have at least three strong teams from this side that will be able to play with teams from Harare.

“The other thing, we want to continue to entertain our fans who have been following us since the season started. We want to keep them entertained. It will help us again on sourcing sponsorship.

“It is very difficult to find sponsorship when there is no action. If we do not play, they will start to give up on us. We were beginning to attract partners so if we stop playing, we will lose them. Some fans have been begging us to play so we will make sure we will do that for them,” he said.
