Musona for CAF Champions League? Knowledge Musona

ZIMBABWE’S contingent at Kaizer Chiefs are set for another Caf Champions League adventure next year after the Amakhosi confirmed they will play in the tournament with Knowledge Musona a big target to join them in January.
The Warriors’ talisman was a success for Chiefs in the Champions League this year, scoring four goals in four matches, and although his team crashed out in the second round, Musona remains one of the leading goalscorers in the Champions League.

Those leading the race for the Golden Boot have six goals even though the tournament has now reached the semi-final stage.
Chiefs have already announced that they will try to secure Musona when the January window opens and, with all indications showing the Warriors talisman will not be considered for action at his Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim this season, the possibility of him returning to South Africa is high.

“Musona’s issue is simple, the two clubs agreed on certain (conditions) on the deal — a loan deal and a long-term solution which gave us the right to exercise an outright buy on him,” Kaizer Chiefs football manager, Bobby Motaung, told KickOff.

“But the player had to consent to the deal.
“Unfortunately, the player still wanted to do a short-term deal where he comes and he can always go back to Europe at any given time whether during the season or end of the season if the opportunity arises but obviously from an investment point of view it didn’t make business sense for us.

“You can’t invest huge money on a short-term deal that doesn’t give you the returns. We would still pursue the matter going forward without pressure because there is a transfer window in January. The matter is not closed… If he feels that he wants to continue there (in Europe) that’s his right, but Musona is like a son to us and he will always be welcome at Chiefs.

“It was never about affordability.”
If that deal is secured, Musona could join his fellow Zimbabweans – Kingston Nkhatha, Willard Katsande, Ovidy Karuru and Matthew Rusike – in a Champions League adventure next year.

The Amakhosi qualified for Africa’s premier club competition by virtue of a second-placed finish in the Absa Premiership last season, but club had taken their time to accept the invitation.

But yesterday Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung finally confirmed the news to Robert Marawa on MetroFM, saying his club will join Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League. — Sports Reporter/KickOff.
