GODKNOWS Murwira has adapted well to the CAPS United system since joining from cross town rivals Dynamos early this year.

The 29-year-old was rejected by the new DeMbare technical team led by Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa to all but end a not-so-enjoyable second spell with the Glamour Boys.

Already Murwira had been frozen out of the DeMbare squad by former coach Tonderai Ndiraya following damaging match-fixing allegations pointed at him.

And with Maruwa and his backroom staff having a bias for young blood, Murwira decided to cross the great divide to the green half of the city.

With some doubting his capacity to establish himself in coach Lloyd Chitembwe’s team structure, Murwira has actually helped transform the team which has started the term with a bang.

Makepekepe are third on the log with 16 points to their name, just a point behind leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Murwira, who is one of the few utility players in the league, has deployed at right-back for all the nine games Makepekepe have played so far.

He has weighed in with three assists and has also made The Herald’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s Team of the Week twice over nine weeks.

And the former Ngezi Platinum Stars man, who has also become a fan darling at Makepekepe, has attributed his quick adaptation to Chitembwe and his “mature teammates”.

“Yes, so far so good. Everything is going on well. You know moving from Dynamos to CAPS United is always tricky. You always put yourself under pressure because all eyes will be on you,” said Murwira.

“You should have nerves of steel to be able to stand that. But I am happy, very happy that I have managed to settle well at CAPS United since making that big move from Dynamos.

“I am someone who has changed clubs four or so times over the past decade and what I have realised is that football is the same.

“At CAPS United, I have found so much encouragement from coach Lloyd Chitembwe and all my teammates.

“Most of them are my age mates. I have played together with many of them at both amateur and professional level. So for me, it wasn’t very difficult to fit in the system. The environment has been very conducive and I am glad I am doing well, helping the team in both defensive and attacking duties”.

Murwira said he is determined to help Makepekepe achieve their set targets.

“The idea is to win as many matches as we can. That’s the secret in this game and if you can do this, you know everything falls into place.

“I think we have one of the best teams in the league with some of the most experienced individuals. If you have that, you can challenge for anything provided you retain your concentration and put in the work.

“I think everyone at CAPS United knows exactly what we want to achieve as a team.

“The language is the same, the tone is the same and the mentality in the team is very encouraging.

“Everyone is willing to learn, to work, to play and to achieve”.

Chitembwe is happy with how Murwira has carried himself so far.

“Yes, Murwira is a key member of the squad. I am happy with how he has established himself within the team.

“He is a very experienced boy and with how he is doing, I think he will be very important in our competitive quest,” said Chitembwe.

“So far, as a team we have done very well and I am very much impressed with the mentality of my boys especially”.
