DYNAMOS defender Elisha Muroiwa has resumed training with the rest of his teammates as he looks to completely shake off a leg injury that had sidelined him for over a month.

Muroiwa returned to work yesterday when the DeMbare players regrouped at Motor Action Sports Club after a short Premiership break for the mid-season.

Team manager Richard Chihoro said the defender has started on light training and will be under continuous assessment by the club’s medical team.

The steely defender had missed action because of a shin injury he picked up while on national team duty with the Warriors during the COSAFA tournament in Namibia last month.

His absence left the Glamour Boys short of men in central defence, especially with the departure of former captain Augustine Mbara to South Africa Premiership side Highlands Park.

The technical team had been left with only Sydney Linyama and Obey Mwerahari with no proper cover if one of them got injured.

However, DeMbare coach Lloyd Mutasa said they are looking to have the combative player back in action for the second half of the season.

Mutasa also said another long-term casualty Valentine Ndaba, who has been out for three months after suffering injuries in a road traffic accident, is also expected back this week.

“Muroiwa is still recovering. We had given him time to rest, but we expect him to be back for the second half of the season,” said Mutasa.

“I am also happy to say Valentine should resume training any time from now. He has been recovering quite well from those injuries.

“But we will probably have a fully fit Valentine by mid-August. He is part of the team and hopefully we will be able to get the best out of him.”

Ndaba will have to fight for his place in the team with the likes of Masimba Mambare and newboys Denver Mukamba and Simba Gorogodyo, who joined the side in the current transfer window.

Veteran former Buffaloes striker Jacob Muzokomba is also eyeing a move to the Glamour Boys along with midfielder Wisdom Mutasa, who has asked to move from ZPC Kariba and join his father at DeMbare.

Mutasa said the mid-season break was an opportunity for injured players to recover from knocks and for the team to work on their shortcomings.

They are also looking to have players like Ocean Mushure, who missed their last match against ZPC Kariba because of a groin injury to come back to full fitness. There were also minor knocks on Tichaona Chipunza and Gorogodyo.

“I think this break is helpful for us in many ways. We have had some few days off and the players regrouped (last) Wednesday.

“Like I have said, this break will help some of our injured players to recover. Those whose legs were now tiring will get the opportunity to recharge ahead of more battles ahead.

“At the same time, we will be revisiting those grey areas we noticed and try to work on them,” said Mutasa.

Dynamos will begin their second leg of the race with a trip to ZPC Kariba this Saturday.

The Glamour Boys ended the first half of the season on fourth place.

Mutasa predicted that the return matches will be tightly contested.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a tough ride because some teams will be fighting to avoid relegation and others for the championship and good positions in the top half.

“Every game promises to be difficult, so we should brace for that.

“As you saw, we started slowly this year. We had wanted to get at least two-thirds of the points, but we managed 25, which is just below the mark.

“We will try to do better than that in the second half of the season,” said Mutasa.
