Murder suspect arrested

A 32-year-old man who struck and killed another man with a burning log during an argument over meat at a braai in Kadoma has been arrested in Bulawayo.

The suspect, Benard Shoko (32) was arrested on Tuesday following a manhunt.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“On November 9, 2021 detectives in Bulawayo arrested Benard Shoko aged 32 in connection with a murder case he committed in Kadoma on November 8, 2021.

“The suspect struck the victim, Innocent Fosho aged 34 with a burning log after an argument over meat while braaing,” he said.

Fosho died at Chegutu Hospital on the same day of Shoko’s arrest.

Meanwhile, police in Esigodini are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Admire Sibanda of Sibanda village in Gokwe in connection with a case of murder.

“The suspect struck the victim, Abel Chinondo aged 23 with an iron bar on the forehead after an argument. The victim had refused to accommodate the suspect in his shaft while illegally panning for gold at Pretorious Mine, Esigodini on November 4, 2021.

“The victim died whilst admitted at Mpilo General Hospital on November 9,2021. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station.”

Murder cases have been on the increase countrywide and police have been urging the public to respect the sanctity of human life and to avoid solving disputes through violent ways.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe recently said Government remained gravely concerned by the continued surge in crimes of violent nature.
