Edward Masendeke, who was last week nabbed in connection with a murder committed in 2013, has been released after the High Court consented to his bail application. Masendeke, who has been on the run since 2013, following a murder at a drinking spot at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre, was released on $100 bail and ordered to continue residing at his known address.

Delivering the ruling, Kwekwe magistrate Mr Storey Rushambwa, who agreed with the decision, said Masendeke should not interfere with witnesses and report twice a week at Gokwe Police Station.

Masendeke (40) was picked up by police detectives after he resurfaced to attend his elder brother Elson’s funeral.

Masendeke allegedly assaulted Jonathan Mpofu together with brothers Ernest and the late Elson, as well as two other accomplices, Walter Mahofa and Justice Mukarati, following a misunderstanding in the bar.

Mpofu died on the spot from the assault.

Allegations are that on March 27, 2013 at around 3am, Masendeke was playing the game of snooker in company of his two brothers and two other accomplices at Cold Spring Bar in Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre.

A misunderstanding ensued between Mpofu and one of the accused, leading to a brawl.
